How to use the Rain

I love the rainy season here in Ontario, it’s usually very short lived but to me it feels like the perfect transition state from Winter to Spring. During this time, I like to prep my garden, fertilize my lawn, tend to my spring cleaning and generally get prepared for the summer and the busy upcoming Wedding season.

For a lot of us in the Wedding industry and for so many engaged couples this pandemic has seemed like a long dreary rainy season with no Spring in sight.

“That is one good thing about this world–there are always sure to be more springs.”

–L.M. Montgomery

The Canada wide roll out of the vaccine has ignited hope in so many of us that the world will eventually return to “normal”…even though we have no idea when. The questions is, what do we do until that time? How do we use this rainy season to our benefit?

Here are 5 great tips on how you can use the rain this year:

  1. Commit to Health & Wellness: One of the many journeys I’ve endeavoured on this year is taking my health under control and committing myself to a more active lifestyle. When there is so much fear related to sickness all around us, it’s crucial that we’re taking care of ourselves both mentally and physically.
  2. Grow: Whether it’s taking a course, learning the ukulele or reading about interesting topics, choosing to take part in activities that allow for personal growth is very empowering and a great way to pass the time.
  3. Make plans: Lists are one of my favourite things! I will make a list for almost anything and everything, just so I can stop cycling through the same thoughts in my mind over and over again. What goals do you want to accomplish? Where would you like to travel? What projects would you like to get done at home?
  4. Clean Up: Having a clean and organized environment can do wonders for your mood and your productivity. If you’re finding yourselves with more time than you know what to do with at home, then take a look around and get to work.
  5. Disconnect: I don’t know about you but my social media usage has been off the charts for the past year because it can be a mindless (but entertaining) way to pass the time. As we know though, too much time staring at our screens is not good for us and it’s taking away from all the things we could be accomplishing.

As we countdown to warmer and brighter days let’s use this time to look inward and focus on what we can do for ourselves and our families to make life that much sweeter now and in the future.
